The obelisk is located to the north of Pinfold Lane, the main street running through the village and commemorates 23 men. The text reads:

 “Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends”

NOTE: The name R. Dent has been added at then end and is not in alphabetic order.  It is Nixon Dent as commemorated on the Copley War Memorial and St. John the Evangelist Church Memorial Plaque.
