Edgar CARRICK 1912 – 1944

1659495 Gunner Edgar Carrick, 168 Battery, 56 Light Anti- Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery died 8 March 1944 aged 32.  He is buried at Beach Head War Cemetery, Anzio, Italy.[1]

Family Details

Edgar was born 27 February 1912,[2] the son of Thomas and Alice Carrick at Evenwood the brother of Wilfred, Hilda and Elsie.[3]  In 1911, Thomas Carrick worked as a coal miner [hewer] as he did in 1939 when he lived with his daughter Elsie at 21 Rochdale Street, Evenwood. [4]

In 1936, Edgar married Catherine May Smith.[5]  In 1939, they lived at 5 Station Road, West Auckland with Mrs. Elizabeth Bagley.  Edgar worked as a coal miner [putter] and Catherine is recorded as “unpaid domestic duties.  They may have had one child.[6]

Burial

Gunner E. Carrick is buried at grave reference VIII.A.10, Beach Head War Cemetery, Anzio, Italy.  His headstone carries the following epitaph:

As we loved him so we miss him in our memory he is dear.  Wife, Dad and family.
