NOTES:
1] The territorials’ photo has been with us since 1986 when the late Tom Robinson, landlord of the Welcome, let us copy it for a local history display. We have been helped by Hazel Buck, Evelyn Humphries, Hazel Bowman and John Hallimond in identifying 5 of the soldiers who are recognisable by comparing with other photographs. They are R.W. Wallace, J. Linsley, T. Pinkney, C. Sedgewick & C. Hall
2] Cockfield Remembrance Service, November 2019, Bob Dixon was approached by a gentleman who offered more names – some confirmed our understanding and others offered new identities.
3] November 2014, the Northern Echo Remembrance Sunday Supplement p.79 include a memorial to W. Lamb, who is included in the above territorials’ photo. KNR spoke to the lady who placed the memorial but has lost her contact details. His identity on this photo was unknown at the time.
