Thomas Oliver Hill 1890-1937
Lieutenant T.O. Hill, 16/DLI & 4/King’s African Rifles was born in 1890 at Lanercost, Cumberland to Mozart and Margaret. 1901: lived at Elswick, Newcastle, father was a marine engineer. 1911: was a student and attained a B.Sc., becoming a teacher at Cockfield County Mixed School 1912: left Cockfield. Joined 9/DLI then 4/King’s African Rifles posted to Uganda being promoted to Lieutenant. He was awarded the British War and Victory medals. Married Lilian. Died: 1937 aged 47 at Kingston-upon-Hull.
