Robert Alfred Morrell was born on 17 February 1900 at Butterknowle to Robert and Jane. He was baptised 28 May 1900.  In 1901 the family lived at Pinfold Lane, Butterknowle.  He attended Cockfield C. of E. School then County School and lived at Fell View, Cockfield. In 1911, the family lived at Mount Pleasant, Cockfield.  In 1925, he married Mary Agnes Hayton and Robert Hayton was born in 1926.

Robert joined the Royal Navy 13 March 1918, as an Ordinary Seaman service no. J86102.  He was demobilized 26 May 1919.  He received the British War medal.  Robert died May 1985 aged 85.
