Private Jasper Kirby

Jasper Kirby was born 27 January 1885 at Cockfield to parents James George and Jane Ellen. He was baptised 3 February 1895.  In 1901, the family lived at 11 Burnt Houses.  He attended Cockfield C. of E. School then County School. In 1911, they lived at 5 Burnt Houses and worked as a coal miner [pony driver].  In December 1916, he married Florence Lowson and a son was born in 1918 named Luther in memory of Jasper’s older brother Luther Dixon killed in action 24 0ctober 1917.

Jasper Kirby joined 10/Northumberland Fusiliers [service no. 83728] and received British War Medal. Jasper died June 1957 aged 62.
