Matthew Henry Hunter was born 14 October 1897 to John Horace and Mabel Alice at Cockfield. In 1901, the family lived at 14 Esperley Lane. He attended Cockfield C. of E. School then County School and lived at Comer Terrace, Cockfield. He joined 6/DLI [service no. 3999] and entered France 1 October 1915. He must have been discharged due to wounds received in action since he was awarded the Silver War Badge. He was awarded the 1914-15 Star and Victory, British War medals. Mathew Hunter died December 1926 aged 29.
