Joseph Thomas Buttle 1895-1975

95321 Private J.T. Buttle, 2/DLI was born in 1895 at Lynesack the son Richard and Elizabeth.  He initially attended Cockfield C. of E. School then from 1907 started Cockfield Council School.  The family lived at Bleak Terrace, Cockfield.  By 1911, Joseph lived with the Keers family in West Auckland.  He was a coal miner [pony driver]. He joined 2/DLI and was awarded the British War and Victory medals. In 1917 he married Mary A. Raine.  He died in December 1975.
